Hi,
I am going to design and built a drag kart. I do know a lot about bike engines, but I know that I want something quick. It should also be simple to understand and use. CBR, YZF, GSXR?
I would like to learn what are the important facts in buying an engine? Is eBay a good place to buy?
Thanks
Doug
use the mnemonic K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple Stupid.
Stay away from fuel injected, to complicated for a simple drag cart
Stay away from Water cooled. It's a drag cart drag racers rarely use or utilize the cooling system.
Stay away from exotics... You want an engine you can lay your hand on over and over again which has been used in different guises on different bikes.
Buy one that has a lot of after market mods available. you are gonna use them
Buy the complete bike.. NOT just the engine. You can make the cost of the engine on selling the parts you don't need and you can be assured that the bike goes.
Don't buy Non runners.
In my mind use the venerable Suzuki air /oil cooled GSX / GSF/ BANDIT engine.
Its a four stroke four cylinder unit that comes in 250-400-600-650-750-900-1000-1100-1150-1200-1400 cc capacities. It can be modded to produce over 200 BHP from the 1000-1400 cc engine size spares are cheap and you can pick them up from most breakers and the cycle parts are always wanted in the second hand market and it has been used by Suzuki in its race bikes in decades gone by..
