I want to start on a comic book. I've been interviewing different artists and eventually want to solicit to some publishers. But how do I do so without the idea being stolen? Obviously I'd need to get a copyright, right? How do I do that?
At this point I'm not worried about protecting the art work, just the story. Can I copyright the title and the story?
Keep in mind this is not a finished project. There is as of yet no artwork and it is yet to be printed anywhere other than my files.
There is any easy and cheap way to prove that it was your idea before anyone else's - just put an original description or mock-up of your comic book ideas in an envelope and mail it to yourself. When you receive it back, do not open it. Just save it. If there is ever a legal question about who had the idea first you have a postmark on a sealed envelope to prove when you had the idea. But make sure to keep a copy for yourself to work from!
